John

When one took the Donora car--either the shuttle or the thru car from
Riverview--one could hardly help notice just upriver from Black Diamond on
the line that there was a billboard proclaiming: "Welcome to Donora--next
to your home town the friendliest town in the USA--AND--home of Stan
Musial."

My dad also took me to one game - it was probably late 1950s. We sat on
third base side, which might have been visitors dugout. It was an evening
game with St. Louis Cardinals. I'm pretty sure the objective was to see
Stan (the man) Musial.

Otherwise, during late 1950s, there were "knot hole"(?) games in which an
Edgewood group would organize trips to Forbes Field for kids - probably
connected with Little League. We would be seated in right field bleachers
among a mob of other kids from around the Pittsburgh district. Little did
we know that we were watching a future hall of fame player in right field -
number 21.

Guess I was losing interest in baseball about time Maz lifted a home run
over the left field wall. I was 14 and in 8th grade and had started taking
advantage of "Sunday Pass" trolley riding. There's a rumor that Pirates
might have won a couple other world series since then, but people's
interests change over the years. Pittsburgh was a good place to grow-up.
