An article from Motortrend magazine Mr.Lattner:

"Instead, the entry level buyers that the auto industry counts on to keep hope alive just don’t seem interested — either in cars, or in driving at all. Reuters reports a startling statistic: more than one-quarter of 16 to 34 year olds, who are known as Generation Y or the Millenials, do not even have a driver’s license."

"One of the most interesting trends we've seen among young people is one of the most worrying for automakers: Generation Y's lack of interest in cars.

It's been noted in countries around the globe, and we've spent a lot of time discussing the matter here at The Car Connection. The general consensus seems to be that Gen Y (roughly, those age 18-34) is more interested in gadgets than gears. In fact, young people told GM that driving is frustrating because it cuts into time that could be spent texting."

It is a good idea to keep texters away from the steering wheel isn't it--and this is by choice.

Who are these "younger people" that you speak of that do not want to drive by choice? I can tell you That in my world both my son and daughter could think of nothing but the day they could obtain their Learners permit to drive. Ditto for buying their own cars. This was true of all their friends also.

Take public transit when they could drive themselves, NEVER.

Disclaimer. This was meant in a humorous way and not to criticize your comments.
