I know that railfans are interested mostly in railways and the other things wash off their backs.   But I must offer congratulations for you're having gotten another piece of old Pittsburgh history into the picture, i.e. the Gulf filling station.

Without researching it, I could not tell you when it was that it vanished as an independent oil company.   I only recall that someone tried to buy it and Gulf objected.   Chevron came charging in on a white horse with Gulf's blessing to save it.  But Chevron didn't save it.   They kept what they wanted and sold off the rest.    The original name?   It came from the Gulf of Mexico.

I think one of you had some jpegs of this unique operation.  Can just imagine taking a 42 Dormont by way of the Tenth Street Bridge and back-tracking to the South Hills Trolley Tunnel.
