[PRCo] Streetcar pranks

Reminds, me Dennis, of a Johnstown motorman telling me how the local kids used bananas for a similar purpose on the Oakhurst car line. Some of you may remember that line ended on a down grade … probably around 4% …. at a T intersection with someone's front yard directly across from the end of the car tracks. One motorman told me that, "more than once we had to pull a streetcar out of that yard across the street." (If someone really wants to find the spot … go to Bing Maps and hunt Corrinne St. at Meridian Ave. in Johnstown.)

And the Jacksonville story also serves to 'splain why Pittsburgh mounted the trolley catchers on all the city PCC cars up at the roof. Saved a lot of problems with neighborhood miscreants.

Kids are kids everywhere. I remember a visit to Napoli (or Naples if you want to misspell it into English) in 1961. My that time that Italian city only had one trolley line remaining. But it seemed that every other car had at least one urchin hanging on the outside on the rear. And the one easy object to grab hold of was the trolley rope catcher (or retriever).
