Smithfield and Wood as well as Liberty and Penn were converted to
One-Way by 1918-1919 as indicated on the enclosed drawing. All new
one-way streets were double-track TrolleyCar Streets, except Third &
Fourth. "One Could Assume" this is a test for a certain length of time
thus the other tracks would be kept at least until there was 'no-hope'
  of returning to 2-way streets!

Removal of the second track was slow; Wood Street possibly was the first
to have the unused track removed and that may have been promoted by
  1936-flood damage.

  Here is Wood in May-1919s:

  A year-and-a-half after 1936-flood:

Wood at Halloween, or there-about, 1939 -- paving renewed. This
extended to about 4th -- beyond that there were still portions of Wood
with brick around the track only:

Looking south on Wood between 4th and 3rd ca. 1950 -- Ligonier Block
  around track much in evidence:

A view of Wood from 3rd to Fourth, 1955:

Wood & 4th in 1951 with PRCo PCC Interurban 1713 signed for WASHINGTON.
Another Interurban is visible in the distance. I assume it is rush
hour. In 1951 the two Interurban lines still operated on 30-min headway
but instead of running in tandem from Wash-Jct to Pgh and return, they
were spaced 15-minutes apart on this corridor. Shannon and West Library
cars interlined providing more frequent service:
