Thanks for that bit of nostalgia. Those two lines, plus the Mt Oliver incline, were the first PRC lines that I rode on the premise they were threatened with closure. Of course as we know neither the 17 nor the 20 ever came back to tram operation, even though most of the tracks and wire were still intact years after the conversion.
The article was also of interest for dating the installation of the switches at the Triangle end of the Point Bridge, which would have permitted the 20 cars, had they ever been reinstated, to avoid the wood-paved ramp up to the Manchester Bridge. I wonder if the switches were ever used? Or was the last 20 car the last car to traverse the Manchester Bridge?
