Yes, when Daria Washington started with PATransit the female roster
consisted of her, Hattie Bartosik and Cora Sypolt. Daria began at East
Liberty (where Cora Sypolt was an operator) in the class ahead of my
training class. She transferred to SHJct (where Hattie Bartosik was an
operator) a few months after I did. Daria Washington and I had the infamous
"meet" on the single track on Warrington Avenue which was caused by the
unwillingness of PATransit to keep the overhead contacts and the Nachod
systems in general in top operating condition. By the late 1970s there were
quite a number of women operators.
