NC Zones in Pittsburgh

The intersection of Chestnut St. and Spring Garden Avenue on the
Northside was even more extreme than "NC". The 1 Spring Garden line
was double track on Chestnut Street, then went to single track at the
turnout where the 5 Spring Hill line separated. The Spring Garden line
was single track around the tight intersection at Spring Garden Avenue,
then went back to double track a little way down Spring Garden Avenue.
I've always thought it's interesting that 40 years after trolleys were
discontinued on Chestnut St. in that area, the rail appeared to be in
good condition, possibly better than some current PAT trackage. I
haven't checked recently, but much of the Chestnut St. trackage north of
Ohio St. is probably still visible.
