Greetings!
Can the gauntlet overhead at the Charleroi Car House in this 1952 photo
(http://davesrailpix.railfan.net/pitts/htm/wvp331.htm) be explained? I
have a photo of 3811 beside the Car House but without gauntlet overhead
in a 1946 photo. I assume it had something to do with the signalling
which operated by overhead contactor -- or it was used to make
switching moves at the Car House easier while eliminating frogs in the
mainline for the southbound cars.
How far did this gauntlet wire extend? I would assume past the
southern end of the Car House which might make for some interesting
overhead at this end where southbound cars could loop into the yard and
/ or barn and in so doing crossed the *siding* leg for the northbound
cars.
The Car House was not always a *siding* - don't recall and can't find
the source for the date when northbound cars pulled through the Car
House to await clearance for the next single track section.
