[PRCo] Still fussing about Try St.

What I was trying to say about Forbes not going downtown may not have
been said clearly.
The crucial area for a Try St./Forbes St. intersection is near the
southwest corner of the old County Jail where, in recent times,
Forbes and Diamond Streets met in a rather long, wedge-like
intersection (complicated by 6th Avenue entering from the northwest).
According to a 1923 map, Forbes ended at that intersection, it was
Diamond St. which survived the meeting and continued on downtown and
through the Diamond Market.
The Pan Handle track(s) went into their tunnel under Grant's Hill at
the southern edge of Forbes/Diamond, just about where the two were
merging down to normal street width, that is, close to the narrow end
of the wedge.
Try Street, in the 1870's, appears to have met Diamond St. just east
of the Pan Handle tunnel, right smack in the middle of the
Forbes/Diamond merge. BUT, in those days there was no such merge,
Forbes ended at a cross street a block east of there.
That was what I meant about Forbes not going downtown. In stopping
short of the eventual wedge-shaped intersection behind the jail,
Forbes also missed intersecting Try Street.
Later, in the 1900's, Forbes did connect to Diamond but by that time
Try Street had been cut back to 4th or 3rd Avenue. thus, there would
not be an intersection at which Try met Forbes.
That's why I found the reference to "Forbes and Try Streets"
puzzling. Perhaps it was customary to refer to the strip occupied by
the PCC&StL tracks as Try Street because it once had been that.
