I stand corrected...Joshua is absolutely right. And there is also a third
hollow that goes east just above the railroad/river junction...the
Penn-Lincoln Parkway East was built on this alignment. It's all very clear
on the USGS Pittsburgh East Quadrangle map.
Checking the facts eliminated the hollow ring to this conversation!

Junction Hollow is the older name for Panther Hollow. Its name came from
the junction of the B&O lines at its south end.

Someone more familiar needs to clarify something for me ... my father
used to refer to the ravine next to Carnegie Tech as Panther
Hollow. Has the name been changed?
