[PRCo] A trip down memory lane for Grateful Fred...

When the Pirates hit a home run, radio broadcaster Rosie Roswell would say his catch phrase, "Raise the window, Aunt Minnie. Here it comes". As the baseball was headed for the outfield Rosie would play a record of a slide whistle followed by a sound effect of glass breaking". I believe that Rosie never traveled with the team, but broadcast away games from the radio studio in Pittsburgh, reading the game's progress from the Western Union ticker and describing the game as if he were at the ball park. The ticker could be heard chattering in the background, listeners who understood code would know what happened before Rosie announced it. I've heard stories about ticker code readers who won bets by knowing what the next play would be.
Rosie Rosewll was the long-time Pirates broadcaster into the early/mid 1950's when Bob Prince became the broadcaster. Rosie's games were broadcast on WWSW, and the games switched to KDKA when Bob Prince was the broadcaster and he travelled to away games.

Wasn't it before Bob Prince? Rosie Roswell or someone?
Give Fred credit, he didn't grow up in the 'burgh.
When the Pirates hit a home run it was announced with something like "open
the window Aunt Minnie, here she comes".....
And the Grateful Fred wasn't from the South Side
